Players lose their dino when the server restarts (The Isle Evrima)
Players on your Evrima server lose their dino after a restart? Here's why the safe-log bug happens and how RCON Hub warns them to log out in time.
Players on your The Isle (Evrima) server log back in after a restart and their dino is gone. It's the game's safe-log bug: logging out close to a restart can lose the dino, and the server needs restarting every few hours anyway. RCON Hub fixes it: its The Isle Manager pack restarts on a timer, warns players from 15 minutes before, and tells them to log out now while there's still time.
Why dinos get lost around restarts
The Evrima server slowly uses more memory, so hosts restart it every 6 to 12 hours. That's a lot of restarts.
Each one is a risk. A player who logs out close to a restart can come back to a fresh spawn instead of their grown dino. Community guides say to log out at least 5 minutes before. That only works if players know a restart is coming.
You can see it in the server's log too. When it happens, the game writes lines like these:
Left The Server while not being safeloggedwhen a player leaves without safe-logging.Warning: Save file is corruptjust before a player starts as a fresh spawn.
So the manual routine looks like this:
- Restart the server every few hours, around the clock.
- Type warnings into RCON by hand before each one.
- Save the world before you stop it.
- Answer the lost-dino tickets that come in anyway.
Miss a warning and you'll hear about it.
What the game and other tools leave out
- No restart schedule. The game never restarts itself. The Isle Manager restarts every 6, 8 or 12 hours, and you can add up to six set times a day.
- No warnings. Nothing tells players a restart is coming. The Isle Manager announces it in game at 15, 10, 6, 3 and 1 minutes.
- No "log out now". A plain countdown doesn't say what to do. At 6 minutes the warning says "log out now to keep your dino".
- No clean stop. Ending the process can catch the save halfway. The Isle Manager saves the world first, then stops the server cleanly.
- No way back. Evrima's saves are encrypted, so no vanilla tool can give a dino back. The warnings are what prevents the ticket.
How RCON Hub fixes it
The Isle Manager talks to the server over Evrima's own RCON. Before each timed restart it sends the countdown warnings in game, saves the world, stops the server and starts it again. If nobody's on, it can restart straight away with no countdown. It can back up the save before each restart too, and it restarts the server if it crashes or freezes.
Step-by-step setup
- Install RCON Hub. Download it from rconhub.gg and run the installer. It's free for Windows 10 and 11.
- Add the game pack. Open RCON Hub. On Your games, click Add game, pick The Isle and click Install.
- Set up your server. Open The Isle card. Click Install it for me to download the Evrima server with SteamCMD (about 1.5 GB), or point it at the folder of a server you already have.
- Pick a timer. Open Automation. Under Restarts and backups, set Restart every to 6, 8 or 12 hours.
- Keep the warnings long. Set Warn players to 15 minutes, so the "log out now" warning goes out at 6.
- Add set times if you like. Use Extra restarts every day at (this PC's time) for a restart at a quiet hour.
- Skip the wait when it's empty. Leave Restart straight away when nobody's on (no countdown needed) ticked.
- Back up first. Tick Back up the save before each restart.
- Restart by hand the same way. On the Server page, a restart from RCON Hub runs the same countdown and save.
Renting your server? Add it on the Servers page with its Pterodactyl panel key and RCON. Timed restarts then run the same countdown and go through the panel.
Is it safe?
Yes.
- It runs locally. RCON Hub and The Isle Manager run on your own Windows PC. The Isle Manager never opens the RCON port in your firewall, and it warns you if Windows already did.
- No injection. RCON Hub never touches the game client or your players' games, and it doesn't edit saves. It won't get anyone banned.
- Your secrets stay put. The RCON password is stored encrypted on your PC.
It's beta software. Back up your server's settings and data before you change things.
Keep every dino your players grew
A warning in time is cheaper than a ticket. Download RCON Hub, add the Isle pack, and let your restarts warn players for you. Questions go to ClanStop's Discord.
